​Southeast CT 40 Under 40 Award Recipient: Rebecca K. Atkins



Rebecca Atkins, age 23, received the 40 Under 40 Award at a lavish affair at the MGM Grand Foxwoods. Rebecca, a Mitchell Admissions Counselor and former student, received this award for promoting collaborative efforts that benefit the community and solve community problems, enhancing quality of life and achieving professional excellence.

The Day​ — Rebecca K. Atkins is the assistant director of admissions at Mitchell College in New London. In addition to the recruitment and selection of students, Atkins is in charge of the department’s social media, corporate car contracts, events and the international student process.

Her civic involvement includes volunteering for events with The Greater Norwich Area Chamber of Commerce, Groton Public Schools, Riozzi Court New London, Breast Cancer Foundation and the Epilepsy Foundation of Connecticut.

By night, Atkins is lead vocalist for a local band, playing at venues such as the Wolf Den in Mohegan Sun or performing for charity or benefit shows.
She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut where she graduated with a 4.0 GPA. She is a member of the Alpha Chi, Psi Chi, Sigma Alpha Lambda and Sigma Alpha Pi honor societies.
In 2009, she was selected to represent Mitchell College in Washington D.C. at the National Conference for College Women Student Leaders. Atkins, who plans on pursuing a graduate degree in the near future, thanks her mother for most of her success and for making her the person she is today.
