The Season is Heating Up at Michael's Dairy
Michael's Dairy, Mitchell College’s learning lab ice cream shop, officially opens for the 2013 season Friday, March 22 at 3:00 p.m. — a hotly anticipated sign of spring coming amidst a particularly frosty farewell for winter this year.
To get ready this year, Michael’s Dairy partnered with Radio Mitchell to host its first ever "Create-a-Sundae Contest" on Wednesday, March 20 to heat things up! Radio Mitchell’s Johnny Mac emceed and Michael’s Dairy Manager Jessica Brodeur scooped as finalists in the contest battled it out for the ultimate icy cool bragging rights and to see their creations featured on the menu this season. Michael’s Dairy warmly welcomed News Channel 8 and The Day to campus to see the judging panel power through the 10 finalist sundaes. The four-judge panel included New London Mayor Daryl Finizio, Dean of Students Jason Ebbeling, Professor Jim Stephenson, and Director of Human Resources Jonathan Howell.
Congratulations to 1st place winner Christopher Scott whose “Luau Sundae” captured the taste buds and hearts of the judges (and was featured on the News Channel 8 broadcast). His creation will be a featured sundae available throughout the season, along with the following other winning entries: “Cookie Monster Sundae” by Alix Battle, “Death by Chocolate” by Bob Forcier, “Bee Nutty” by Jen Sullivan, and “Cookie Dough Daydream” by Kelsey Miller.

Michael's Dairy at 629 Montauk Avenue, New London features 46 flavors of homemade ice cream, shakes, malts, drinks and menu specials. It is run by Mitchell College students and provides a hands-on customer setting for Hospitality and Tourism students. Michael’s Dairy hosts sock hops, concerts and an annual block party. Connecticut Magazine named Michael’s Dairy among its Top 25 ice cream spots in Connecticut.
